- young and dedicated enthusiasts from the Himalayas, who were devasted by the recent floods in Pakistan and glaciers melting in Tajikistan.

- here to create a space for the scientific community, local governments, environmental agencies, and common people of these regions to access the data to study glaciers and understand their behavior against climate change.

We do not have a lot of data on remote sensing and glacier monitoring in the Pamir region, Tajikistan and Northern Pakistan. Because of the limited information, the communities in these regions have suffered through many natural disasters caused by glacier melting.

Lack of data

Hardly accessible data

Even though the research papers that have been done on the glaciers in these regions by NASA and European Space Agency, the data is spread out on different platforms; thus, the local agencies face challenges in studying the glaciers.

THE PROJECT

ADDRESSES

SEVERAL

PROBLEMS:

Therefore, we want to bring the existing data to one place and provide remote sensing of the glaciers to ease the data access for policymakers and local governments to make informed decisions.

- The project offers data about glacier melting in an organized way.

- The data we have combined and collected through the online resources, helps the environmental organizations and local governments to monitor and study the glaciers so that in the future they can make accurate predictions about the glacier outburst and floods, caused by climate change.

- It also assists local people residing in these regions to be aware of the potential threats of the glacier melting and thus avoid the damages of flooding in the region.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT …

1st – the user will be redirected to the main page “HOME” - navigator

2nd – the user can visit the “ABOUT US” page to get familiar with the aims, goals, and developers

3rd – the user can find data and information about glaciers according to its geolocation in “GLACIERS”

4th – the user can view the recent news and stories, related to glacier melting and its impacts IN “NEWS & STORIES”

5th – the user can check out the “TRAINING” to find out about NASA tutorials in remote sensing that have filters for easy access

Also, on the home page, the user can find the direct “Read more” articles that connect with NASA’s page

6th – the “DISCUSSION” enables the user to comment on trading topics and interact with other users

Besides, the website contains an online translator (in Russian) to help the locals with a quick translation

IN THE FUTURE, WE WILL IMPROVE

THE PROJECT

We will cover all the glaciers that exist in Central Asia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to provide remote sensing data and historical records of the natural disasters these glaciers have brought to the communities and their livelihood.

We will expand our project to other environmental problems that are threatening the region, such as rainstorms and debris flows.

We will build an initiation in natural risk management; namely, resilience strategies to make the community safe and less vulnerable to environmental hazards.

We will include useful materials on emergency preparedness against catastrophic glacier melting and flooding events, as well as recovering from the loss and damage brought by these events.

We will integrate NASA API data to develop an AI tool that will monitor disasters and give signals to local agencies about vulnerable and targeted areas.
