The Wh- words

Wh- words are commonly used to form questions, they are:

Who -> Whom, Whose

Where

When

Why

What

Which

How -> How many/much

Who

‘Who’ is used to inquire about a person

Where

‘Where’ is used to inquire about a location.

When

‘When’ is used to inquire about a specific time or date.

Example:

When is the ceremony?

The ceremony will start at 8p.m. on 17th May.

Why

‘Why’ is used to inquire about the purpose of doing something

What

‘What’ is used to inquire about an action

Which

‘Which’ is used for asking about a choice

How

‘How’ is used to inquire about a method to do something

How many/How much

‘How many’ or ‘How much’ is used to ask for quantity.

For ‘How many’, the noun described must be countable.

For ‘How much’, the noun is uncountable.
