A malware attack is a common cyber attack where malware (normally malicious software also known as a virus) executes unauthorised actions on the victim's system. The malicious software encompasses many specific types of attacks such as ransomware, spyware, command and control, and more.
The common type of malware which a number of schools have recently faced is a ransomware attack.
What is it?
The most well-known type of ransomware attack normally appears as an attachment to an email requesting the recipient to “take action quickly”. When the recipient opens this attachment, it makes the operating system vulnerable and personal data can be lost.
