Snowman at Night

Engage: Read the Book Snowman at Night to the students. Talk about the sequence of the story. Ask them if they had snowman where would they go? What would they see when they got there.

Introduce: Show the students your sample project. Tell them they are going to create their own story and have their character go to different places.

Model: Model how to draw a character if applicable.

Model: How to change backdrops and the code that changes scenes. Model how to get the characters on each scene. Model how to go back and code more details in each scene.

Share: Students will do a gallery walk, with half of the students getting up to look at project and the other half sharing their projects and then switch.

Debrief: What made this project challenging? What were some problems you had? How did you debug the problems? How was this different than other projects?

  1. Use the sequence cards from fairy tales and other stories to have students practice putting stories in the correct sequence.
  2. Play the alphabet memory game with things you love.

“I love apples,”

  • Have a human robot and have a programmer who gives command for the robots to follow in the correct sequence.
  • Code their own version of another story such like: Give a Mouse a cookie by Laura Numeroff or the The Bear Snores on by Audrey Wood
  • Do a scavenger hunt looking for treasure where the students must change locations looking for clues and must follows the instructions sequentially.
