NJGPA Field Test Legislation

July 5, 2022, Governor Murphy signed P.L.2022, c.60 (ACS for A-3196/S-2349), which requires the State Board of Education to administer the NJGPA as a field test for class of 2023.
The law also prohibits the results of the NJGPA field test (First Pathway), a substitute competency test (Second Pathway), or portfolio appeal (Third Pathway) from being used as prerequisite for graduation for students expected to graduate in the class of 2023.
There is no graduation assessment requirement for any student who is expected to graduate with the class of 2023.

NJGPA Overview

NJGPA is designed to measure the extent to which students are graduation ready in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
Graduation readiness is reported separately for each content component.
The ELA component is aligned to the grade 10 standards.
The Mathematics component is aligned to Algebra I and Geometry standards.

Intervention Strategies- Math

Utilization of iReady Diagnostic data to support students and their individual learning needs in all mathematics classes
- iReady Diagnostic data for placement in math foundations classes (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II). These students receive two class periods of math throughout the year to build and connect skills.
- Launch of the Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics Framework (Grades 9-12). Students work in collaborative groups on standards-based mathematical tasks.
- Get More Math pilot (Grades 9-12) - Spiral review program to provide in-depth support of key mathematical concepts
Will use NJGPA and NJSLA Resources of practice tests to align to state exams

Utilization of No Red Ink diagnostic and writing platform to strengthen and support student writing.

Utilization of iReady Reading Diagnostic data to support students and their learning needs in all classes

Using iReady Reading Diagnostic data for placement in English foundations classes. These students receive two class periods of English throughout the year to build and connect skills.
