CoHo HISTORY

Established in 1968 by the Associated Students of the University of California at Davis (ASUCD)
Founded by students with the idea of creating a small retail eatery that would provide high quality food and offer an environment where students could relax between classes
Began with a $25,000 operating budget and only student employees
Multiple relocations and renovations as growth has occurred

To offer food with an emphasis on freshly prepared, natural and ethnic specialties
To offer service during non-peak hours when all other food services are closed
To foster an atmosphere of concern and responsiveness to ecological practices

Seven service platforms with over 450 different menu items
Approximately 5,000 customers served on a daily basis
375+ student employees, including cooks, cashiers, servers; student supervisors and managers
Majority of menu items made from scratch (CoHome-made) by student cooks
Robust student employee job skills training
Hired first-ever Executive Chef in 2024 to oversee culinary operations (CoHo alum)

Funded 2009-10 renovation of the Coffee House
Focus was on increased seating, improved customer service and expanded menu options
Allows for:

- Better service to our customers, meeting the � needs of the campus population

Patio expansion/Employee area expansion & upgrade/Public restroom upgrade

Allowing for expanded patio seating, improved customer restroom facilities and expanded/improved employee breakroom facilities. This would help to address dining room congestion, outdated and insufficient restroom facilities and an employee space whose footprint has not been expanded for decades despite a near doubling of the student employee workforce over that time.

IN CONSTRUCTION (10 months)

Bid came in $280K under budget

Patio to seat approx 100, will function as focal point for the MU SW corner, small performance space, lighting, electrical

Gender Inclusive restroom (additional floor-to-ceiling stall)

Employee break area (no longer in our dining room) as well as additional office/storage space and additional staff restroom
