Ephesian 6:10-19

  • 'Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With every prayer and request, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be alert with all perseverance and every request for all the saints, and pray in my behalf, that speech may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, '

Philippians 3:12-21

  • 'Not that I have already grasped it all or have already become perfect, but I press on if I may also take hold of that for which I was even taken hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, all who are mature, let’s have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that to you as well; however, let’s keep living by that same standard to which we have attained. Brothers and sisters, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us. For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even as I weep, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who have their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our lowly condition into conformity with His glorious body, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.'

Might of God

11 of 19

Components

  • The Belt of Truth (v. 14): Spiritually, the truth of God is the foundation that holds every other part of our lives together.
  • The Breastplate of Righteousness (v. 14): The breastplate protected the soldier's vital organs, specifically the heart. The righteousness of Christ protects us from the devil's accusations and guilt by faith.
  • The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace (v. 15): The soldier's boots provided firm footing, allowing them to stand their ground. Our readiness to stand firm comes from the Gospel of Peace. We through Christ have peace with God and can confidently walk and stand firm, even in hostile territory.
  • The Shield of Faith (v. 16): The large Roman shield could block a barrage of enemy attacks. Faith is our defense against the "flaming arrows" of the evil one, no matter what.
  • The Helmet of Salvation (v. 17): The helmet protected the soldier's most vulnerable part—the head. The assurance of our salvation protects our mind from the enemy's attacks.
  • The Sword of the Spirit (v. 17): The sword is the only offensive weapon in the list. The Word of God is our tool for spiritual offense.
