Fieldwork Student - Supervision Credit

Michigan License Renewal

2 Year Cycle

• 12 of the 20 “hours of continuing education” can be student supervision
• 1 hour for each Level I student
• 1 hour for each week of a Level II student

NBCOT Renewal - 3 Year Cycle

• 12 of the 36 “Professional Development Units (PDUs)” can be student supervision
• 1 PDU for each Level I student
• *Max of 6 PDUs for Level I
• 1 PDU for each week of a Level II student
• Proof: Letter of verification or certificate from school that includes the dates of fieldwork. DO NOT submit student evaluation forms as verification.

OTD Capstone Student - Mentorship Credit

Michigan License Renewal

2 Year Cycle

• A continuing education “activity” approved by NBCOT

NBCOT Renewal - 3 Year Cycle

• One PDU per week of mentorship
• Up to 14 PDUs
• Proof:

A bio sketch that outlines evidence of the mentor’s expertise in the area of the student’s capstone experience, a description of the capstone experience plan and objectives; and a letter or certificate from the school that includes the dates of the mentorship experience and hours of supervision provided.

Key Themes:

-FW Educator should be readily available to intervene at any time

-Can not be treating a client while a student is treating a client and bill two individual sessions

-Part B = Close supervision, therapist is DIRECTING the treatment

Michigan Medicaid Provider Manual

(April 2025)

Occupational Therapy Services are covered for reimbursement when:

• provided by a licensed OT/OTA with a Medicaid enrolled provider (designated NPI number)
• a student completing their clinical affiliation under the direct supervision (in the presence of) a licensed OT/OTA who is a Medicaid enrolled provider (designated NPI number), student documentation is reviewed and signed by the supervising “OT”
• an OTA student functions under the same OT supervision guidelines as an OTA provider/OT provider
