An Aimsir Laithreach – Gach Lá (Present Tense - Everyday)1 syllable slender verbs

Like 1 syllable broad verbs in the present tense, we add an ending to the root of the verb for slender verbs also. For 1 syllable slender verbs in the present tense, we add eann to the end of the root verb.

For example Bris becomes Briseann - breaks

The other difficult part is when we want to say “we” do something in the present tense. With slender

verbs in the present tense, we add imid onto the end of the stem of the verb.

There is no in the present tense. Instead we add im to the root of the verb for slender verbs.

For example Bris would become Brisim I break

For example Bris becomes Brisimid – We break

Ceisteach agus Diúltach (Questions and Negative)

To ask a question in the present tense, we put An before and eann after the verb. We also need to put an urú before the first letter of the verb. Seven letters and the vowels take an urú when you put an before it e.g. An mbriseann tú?

To say that you don’t do something, we put before, h after the first letter and eann after the verb e.g. bhriseann sé.
