A service hour is an hour spent in service, volunteering and giving back to the community. Service is voluntary and for the benefit of others.

Service should be at the center of your clubs and divisions’ focus.

WHAT IS A SERVICE HOUR?

A service event is usually hosted by another organization that Key Clubbers are able to help run or participate in.

    • Clean-ups, serving food at a shelter, marathon, cheering on runners at a marathon, tutoring, etc.
    • Book drives, food drives, clothing drives, etc.

A service project is an event that you as Key Clubbers create, plan, organize, and carry out yourselves

  • At a DCM, convention, or Training Conference
  • Dog toy making, painting flower pots for senior homes, non-slip socks for hospitals

  • Doubling/tripling hours
    • One hour of service cannot be doubled or tripled
  • Admin hours
    • EX. Secretary filling out the MRF, President planning for weekly club meetings
  • Cannot use hours as false incentive
    • EX. counting non-service DCMs as service
  • Financial compensation
    • Service must be voluntary and not paid

  • Create services with impact
  • Be intentional about the purpose of your project
  • Plan services with the goal of benefiting others, not yourself
  • Quality > quantity
  • Over fixate on meeting your service hour goals
  • Devalue service by inflating service hours
  • Forget to center service!

Focus on IMPACT and evaluating and serving based on your community’s needs!
