Industry Sponsored LPN Program

Currently, the LPN program at UHMC is industry sponsored with some community seats in 2025 Cohort as well. Eligible applicants include:

  1. Current employees of LifeCare Hilo, Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center Oahu, Pearl City Nursing Home Oahu.
  2. Current CNA’s of ʻOhana Pacific Health (OPH) on Maui, Kauaʻi, Big Island, and Oʻahu
  3. Seats for non-industry sponsored applicants 15 student on Maui and 5 student on Molokai.

Step 1: Become an active student at UHMC�

You will need to submit a new application for admission into UHMC

  • UHMC is your home institution, and you’ve taken classes within the last 2 years

You will need to submit an acceptance Rollover Form

  • You are currently an active student (enrolled in classes this semester) at another college within the UH System

You will need to submit a Change of Home Institution form

NOTE: As pre-nursing students, choose “Liberal Arts” as your major. You will be able to declare “CA Practical Nursing” as your major once you’ve been admitted into the program.

Step 2: Connect with a UHMC Academic Advisor

  • Appointments can be made online using STAR Balance or
  • Call the UHMC Counseling Department at (808)984-3306
    • Let them know you are interested in the LPN program and would like to meet with a pre-nursing advisor

Step 3: Complete Course Prerequisites �

  • Course prerequisites:
    • ENG 22 or 100, MATH 75x or higher, *BIOL 100 or PHYL 141 or 142, *PHRM 203, and PSY 100 or 240 or HDFS 230
      • *Science courses have 10 year expiration limit
      • All courses need a grade of “C” or better
  • If you’ve completed some of these courses at another college, please check the UH Course Transfer Database to see if they are equivalent to the program prerequisites.
    • If you have any questions, please ask an advisor
  • If you have not completed Math and/or English yet, take the Math and/or English Placement Tests at home.
    • Create an account at EdReady
      • Take English Path 1 and Math Path 1
      • Register to take the English and Math you tested into, and work your way up to the required course(s)

Step 4: Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

Step 5: Apply for the PN Program

  • Call the UHMC Learning Center at 808-984-3240 or visit The Learning Center's website to register to take your TEAS test
  • Complete the TEAS with a score of 57% or better

  • Application available on our website starting August 15
  • Deadline to apply is on October 1, at 4pm HST
