EDI Commission History and Mission

  • Voted into World Triathlon Constitution in Lausanne – September 2019�
  • 6 Members nominated by the E-Board in January 2021, 4 E-Board liaisons appointed�
  • 8 Meetings held since January 2021

  • Complementary to the work of the Women’s Committee.�Chair of EDI Commission is Vice Chair of the Women’s Committee so excellent communication in place

Primary Challenge – Where to Start???

  • We need to invest time to educate ourselves on the subject before rushing to any conclusions
  • All members completed the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion learning module on the Education Hub
  • Three sub-groups were established to consider existing EDI examples
    • Policies and Procedures
    • Metrics
    • Initiatives
  • Collaboration with the International Olympic Committee – papers shared and reviewed
  • Review of sample EDI Vision and Mission Statements
  • Strategy comprised of 4 Goals

Goal 1 – EDI Statements

  • Develop an “EDI Statement” for World Triathlon and have it formally adopted by the E-Board (January 2022)
  • Develop an “EDI Statement Tool-kit” for Continental Confederations and National Federations to enable them to create an EDI Statement appropriate to their context (April 2022)
  • Provide support to achieve 100% of Continental Confederations and 50% of National Federations publish EDI Statements (April 2023)

Goal 2 – EDI Communications

  • Develop an EDI Communications Program for World Triathlon that promotes Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in our sport throughout the year (April 2022)
  • Develop an EDI Communications Tool-kit for Continental Confederations and National Federations to enable them to create an EDI Communications Program appropriate to their context (September 2022)
  • Provide support to achieve 100% of Continental Confederations and 50% of National Federations implement an EDI Communications Program (March 2023)

Goal 3 – EDI Initiatives

  • Identify the 5 most impactful initiatives that can accelerate the increase of diversity and inclusion in World Triathlon (July 2022)
  • Implement a pilot program for each of the 5 initiatives (March 2023)
  • Develop a tool-kit for Continental Confederations and National Federations for the delivery of those initiatives (September 2023)
  • Provide support to achieve 100% of Continental Confederations and 50% of National Federations implement at least 2 EDI initiatives (December 2024)
