LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We recognize that we work and live on the unceded traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the New Credit, the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat.

We are mindful of a history of broken treaties, the urgent need for truth and reconciliation, and the continued effects of colonialism in our cultures and institutions, including public education.

This site is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island.

ACHIEVEMENT

WEll-BEING

EQUITY

Achievement is only possible when we have well-being - when our social & emotional needs are being met.

Well-being is only possible when we have access to what we need, and are included and accepted in every way.

We are here to support each other in our community.

Tell us what you need!

6 of 45

EQUITY

Equality is when everyone has the same. Equity is when everyone has what they need.

If you and your family needs something you cannot access, please let me know. We are here to support you.

We focus on anti-oppression and decolonizing measures in our teaching and learning.

WELL BEING

We all have many needs that must be met in order to be our best self.

Covid has put a strain on our ability to meet our physical and social needs.

Our mental, emotional, social and physical wellness comes first, always!

Madelle is here if you need supports or help meeting any student or family needs!

ROUTINES

LES PLANS - DAILY LEARNING SCHEDULE

LES PLANS are our plans for daily learning.

Students are to check them every morning, and can consult them throughout the day.

Parents are welcome to see what we are learning as they like!

Previous days work is at the bottom of the presentation in the section marked ‘PASSÉ’ to consult if students are absent.

15 of 45

LES PLANS - DAILY LEARNING SCHEDULE

Work is assigned through Google Classroom. Each grade has their own class. Some work is daily activities, some are long-term projects, and some are posted resources. Classroom is not generally used for announcements.

16 of 45

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is taken each morning at 9am, and after lunch at 12:10pm.

If a student arrives late, they must stay on the lesson at the end and tell Madelle they were late, so I can change the attendance and ensure they are marked present.

17 of 45

SYNCHRONOUS VS ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING - GOOGLE MEET

It is important to have access to a camera and microphone for various lessons.

Students will not be asked to show their faces for whole class meetings- only occasionally for grade meetings.

ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING - CLASSROOM

Throughout the day, whenever students are not in a Google Meet, they are expected to be working and learning independently.

MEMRISE- BUILDING VOCABULARY

MEMRISE is a free tool to build vocabulary. It tracks student progress individually.

Students are encouraged to do at least 20 minutes per day, as is convenient to them and their families schedule.

Madelle explains what levels are most useful to them as we learn different units.

If grade 8 students want a challenge, they are free to discuss creating their own course with Madelle.

24 of 45

USING STRUCTURES - implicit grammar

We build accurate fluency quickly by using and practicing structures.

In this way, we ingrain correct grammar without memorizing hundreds of verbs in different tenses.

This year, we will learn a variety of tenses organically, with each grade using various levels of complexity:

-le présent

-le futur proche

-le futur simple

-le passé composé

-l’imparfait

-le conditionnel

LEARNING SKILLS

Learning Skills reflect how a student manages their learning. These skills are developed over a lifetime, and transferable to every aspect of life.

These skills are arguably more important than any single skill.
