Outcomes:

Math

Key Points:

  • Students must earn 4 math credits to graduate
  • Students must take a math class all four years in high school
  • Algebra 1 and Geometry are required

Honors vs. Onlevel:

Honors - A/B this year; understand and apply concepts taught at a faster pace; interested in taking an AP level math class

Help is offered during lunch with teachers and Math Honor Society students (before/after school by appointment)

English

Key Points:

  • Students must have 4 English credits to graduate
  • Students must take an English class all four years in high school
  • English 9-12 are all honors
  • There are two AP English courses offered in the 11th (Lang) and 12th (Lit) grade year; AP electives (Seminar and Research) are offered in 10th-12th as well.
  • Our publications (newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine) are GREAT ways to get involved and create a small community in a large school!

Science

Key Points:

  • Students need 3 NGSS Science credits to graduate and are required to take the High School MISA after Biology.
  • Most students follow our core science pathway: NGSS Biology, NGSS Chemistry, and NGSS Physics or AP Physics 1.
  • In addition, we offer a variety of advanced science electives including Molecular Genetics, Anatomy & Physiology, Forensic Science and many APs.

World Language

Key Points:

  • American Sign Language, Chinese, French, Spanish
  • If you are currently enrolled in a level 2 class, you should take level 3 next year, if you are currently enrolled in level 3, take 4
  • All language levels 3-7 are honors classes
  • 2 years in the same language to graduate, many colleges like to see 3-4
    • Most 9th graders take a language
    • ~80% take 2 years of language at WCHS
    • ~60% take 3 years of language at WCHS
    • ~25% take a language all 4 years at WCHS
  • Seal of Biliteracy: score 4 or 5 on AP language exam or take AVANT test in fall/winter of junior or senior year

Physical Education/Health and Art

Key Points:

  • All 9th graders need to sign up for a year of PE
    • Net Sports, Basketball, Soccer, Yoga, Weight Training, or Foundations
  • All 10th grade students will take a year of Health:
    • Health A and Health B
  • There are many choices for your Fine Arts Requirements
    • Orchestra, Band, Piano, Guitar, Chorus, Theater, Fashion Illustration, Fashion Production, Studio Art, Photography, Ceramics, Digital Art, Foundations of Art

Social Studies

Key Points:

  • Students must have US History, Government, and World History to graduate
    • Students take either Honors US History or AP US History in 9th grade
    • Students take either Honors Government or AP American Government & Politics in 10th grade
    • Students take either Honors World History or AP World History in 11th grade
  • There are more than 20 Social Studies electives that you can take as you study at WCHS over the next 4 years.

Career and Technical Education (CTE)

Key Points:

  • All students need a Technology Credit for Graduation
    • FCS, APCSP, FOET
  • Courses accessible to 9th graders:
    • FCS - HTML/Javascript
    • APCSP - Javascript
    • FOET - Design Process/CADD
    • CP1 - Python (elective)
