Chkalov Stairs

The Chkalov Stairs is a monumental flight of steps in the center of Nizhny Novgorod, the longest staircase in Russia. It starts from the monument to Chkalov, a Russian test pilot and a hero of the Soviet Union, near the St. George’s Tower of Kremlin. It was built by the architects Alexander Yakovlev, Lev Rudnev and Vladimir Munts. It has the shape of a big eight.

St. Basil Cathedral

I’ve always been fascinated by St. Basil Cathedral, emblematic symbol of Russia worldwide. The full name is Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed. It is a Christian church located in the Red Square, nearby the Kremlin. It was built from 1555 to 1561 on orders from Ivan the Terrible to commemorate Kazan and Astrakhan’s capture. It was the city's tallest building until the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower in 1600.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the first monuments I saw once arrived in Nizhny Novgorod. A Russian Orthodox church, since 2009 it is also the main cathedral of the Gorky city. The construction of the cathedral, begun in August 1868, was completed only in 1881, after 13 years of work.

Despite the undeniable damages endured during the soviet period and the World War II, luckily today almost everything has been restored and, after a huge work of restoring, now it is functional and accessible. A great example of Russian national cult architecture, nowadays it is one of the main attractions of the city.

Santa Maria del Fiore

I have always admired the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore-one of the most important monuments of Italian and world architecture. It is located in the center of the city, on the Cathedral square. It was built in 1434 on the site of the old Cathedral of Santa Reparata, which by the end of the XIII century, according to documents from that time, began to collapse, numbering nine centuries of its existence. Moreover, the temple has become small for the city during a period of rapid population growth. By the end of construction the Cathedral was considered the largest In Europe

Duomo di Milano - Milan Cathedral

The magnificent and world-famous Milan Cathedral was built for four centuries, changing during the construction of architectural trends from the Gothic to the Renaissance and Baroque.

A historical monument is located in the center of Milan. The beginning of construction is dated 1386, and is dedicated to the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary. Flaming Gothic-this is how the overall style of the Cathedral is characterized by white marble, decorated with sharp spires (there are 135) and sculptures (there are 3400).

The grandeur of the structure and the way it is decorated takes your breath away. On the roof of the Cathedral there is an observation deck, from which guests can enjoy an amazing panorama of Milan.

In the Cathedral, one of the nails used to crucify Christ is kept above the altar.

The port of Palermo

The port of Palermo is a high and strong gate that in the Middle ages served as a protection of the city from uninvited guests, and today it is one of the city's attractions. Not only reliability, but also beauty is striking in them: perfectly preserved gates are decorated with sculptures in the Baroque style. You can start your journey around the old city with them.

The Rukavishnikov Estate

With its highly ornate blue and white classical facade overlooking the Volga, the Rukavishnikov Estate is considered to be one of the cultural heritage sites. Initially, this manor belonged to a merchant of the first-grade guild. In the 1840s, he failed to pay his debt. Rukavishnikov, the owner of the first steel plant in Nizhny Novgorod, got hold of the manor. Later on, his heir turned the manor into a palazzo-like luxurious estate.

It is representative of the 19th-century Russian eclectic style architecture and reflects the history of lavish balls in pre-Revolution Russia.
