Our objective is to grow the Williams College arts community, informally known as the Williams “art mafia.”

Specifically, we want to build up the community between:

  • Williams College student artists AND
  • Williams College student curators AND
  • William College alums who work in or are patrons of the arts.

9

To accomplish our objective, we plan to do four things:

  • First, we will organize an open call show in the first semester of 2025, in which one or more student artists collaborate with a student curator, likely an art history major, to create an online exhibit on Pixeum of the artist’s work. The exhibits will be evaluated by jurors, Williams alums presently in the art world.
  • Second, we will host an in-person show in Williamstown in January 2026 at which the top three teams will display their exhibits.
  • Third, we will host an online show in February/March 2026 of the top three teams.
  • Four, we will organize a pop-up exhibit in Manhattan in April 2026 of the top three teams. We intend to use a large u-haul truck as the gallery, hopefully assisted by good weather!

We are seeking Williams alums, who are presently curators, administrators, patrons, or artists, to be jurors of this open call show. We think the benefit of being a juror offers an opportunity to connect and inspire the next generation of Williams students entering the art world.

The responsibilities of jurors will be two-fold:

  • First, to spend 1 to 2 hours, in December or early January, evaluating the exhibits made by the student artist-curator teams. Each exhibit will be hosted on Pixeum and will run no more than five minutes.
  • Second, to attend one of the two online shows, to be hosted in February/March, when the top student artist-curator teams will present their exhibits.

Jurors will also be invited to the opening show in Williamstown in January 2026, as well as the pop-up show in Manhattan in April 2026.
