What is the CAASPP?

The Smarter Balanced assessment system utilizes computer-adaptive tests and performance tasks that allow students to show what they know and are able to do. This system is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics.

Info for Home & School

  • Do NOT send sick kids to school to take CAASPP.
    • Make-ups will be scheduled.
  • No Apple watches allowed to be worn. *Earbuds/headphones needed.
  • Breakfast and dinner night before
  • Send to school with positive messages (lunchbox, backpack, etc.)
  • Sleep
  • Purpose and value of the CAASPP assessments

Balanced message: “Try your best” but don’t overstress its importance. We believe in multiple measures but use it to guide our school patterns and trends in instructions.

Test-taking Strategies...

There is no penalty for guessing. If you would like to review that answer at a later time, mark the item for review by selecting the box next to the flag in the upper-right corner of the screen before going on to the next question. Flagging the item will remind you to go back and decide whether or not you want to correct or leave as is.

Eliminate the obvious wrong, write in complete answers, use key vocab in response, read question first, read all answers first

What do we do with scores?

  • Staff discussion of trends and patterns
  • Grade level curriculum decisions
  • Share with SSC, PTA, BHEF, and other parent meetings
  • Keeps an eye on how best to spend LCAP funds
  • Use when discussing children falling behind. Use as one measure.
