Workshop Earth suffers as consumerism spreads
1 Does buying new clothes make you happy?
2 Does your new stuff tend to lose its in-store magic by the time it's reached your wardrobe?
3 Do you buy far more than you need and use?
4 Do you think that online shopping fuels overconsumption?
Taira
1 Yes, I like to buy new clothes because I like to dress nicely and that makes me happy.
2 It loses its magic because it washes out a bit and somehow it suits me better in the store than at home.
3 Yes, because I constantly have the feeling that I have nothing to wear or the season changes so I outgrow some summer or winter clothes because I am gaining weight.
4 Yes, because we don’t really have to go to the store and so out of boredom we go to the site and buy something in the end.
Ena
I like buying new clothes, I like expressing myself through fashion and I try to be more cautious when it comes to buying clothes so that I end up buying things I will actually wear for a longer period of time and so they don't lose their in-store magic by the time they reach my closet. Sometimes I do buy things that I think I need in that moment, but in reality I forget about them by the time I get home. Yes, online shopping fuels overconsumption as it is now widely available and easy to access for pretty much everyone.
Abraham
1 For me it feels like buying any other type of necessity, although it's a bit more annoying for me.
2 In all honesty, I tend to grow fonder of clothes if I have them for a while.
3. Far from it. Apart from socks, which tend to disappear in mysterious circumstances, I don't buy clothes constantly.
4. Yes, partially. On the other hand, hyping up big amounts of clothes is a problem on it's own.
What can you do to help reach zero-carbon world?
Ela
To help reach a zero-carbon world we have to start small, for example, with recycling. It may sound like too small a step compared to reaching a zero-carbon world, but if we think that it's a too-small step, then we are never going to reach the goal. Another way to zero-carbon world is reducing waste of anything that is not renewable. We should also look forward to using as little electric energy as we can because of the radiation it causes. It's also very important to just use and produce as little plastic and use eco-unfriendly materials.
Anamarija
I could do a lot to help reach zero - carbon world. Instead of driving we could go everywhere on foot or by bike. Instead of filling up my bath with water I could have a shower and save some water. When I go shopping I can use my grocery bags instead of buying the plastic ones at the store. Recycling is a good thing that I can do to stop polluting the environment.
EmaIn order to reach zero-carbon world, we all must react and take numerous measures, it is not a job of an individual, the world depends on all of us. There are many simple steps that we can take such as recycling, using public transport, reducing the use of electricity, turning the lights off when you leave the room and unplugging your devices when they're charged, as well as reducing water usage. In other words we should use energy more efficiently and cautiously.
