Fire Management Assistant Grant (FMAG) Fires

In 2024 there were 4 fires declared FEMA Fire Management Assistant Grant (FMAG) fires. 2012 was the only other year with this number of FMAG fires.

Wyoming State Forestry Grants

Fuels Mitigation Grants:

  • Western State Wildland Urban Interface (WSWUI)
    • $300,000 max project
    • 50/50 match
    • 3 qualifying projects: Hazardous fuels reduction, Prevention/education, CWPP creation/update
  • Community Assistance Funding Adjacent (CAFA)
    • Project must be adjacent to FS lands
    • $300,000 max per fuels project
    • No match
  • Community Wildfire Defense Grants (CWDG)
    • $10,000,000 max per fuels project, $250,000 max per CWPP
    • 10% match for CWPP and 25% match for fuels projects
    • Nationally administered competitive program

Forest Health Grant Program

  • The 2026 Wyoming Legislature has provided $3.5 million to the Wyoming State Forestry Division to allocate for project work that protects and enhances forested lands.
  • Projects must accomplish one or more of the following:
    • Enhancement of water yield or quality
    • Reduction of the risk of catastrophic wildfire damage
    • Increased production of forest products
    • Improvement of habitat conditions for wildlife and livestock
    • Any other project that is beneficial to forest health, that is substantially beneficial to the interest of the state
  • Projects are reviewed by a small committee made up of natural resource professionals
  • Wyoming State Forestry received 31 grant applications within 14 Counties for $12.2 million leveraging an additional $11.4 million in funding, or close to $24 million in active forest management projects, to be implemented on over 25,000 acres.
  • The committee just completed their review. Project award notifications will begin in the next week, followed by site visits, and final contracts for each recipient.
