So what have you learned about watercolour so far?

1. Get containers for both clean and dirty water
2. Start off by filling up your primaries half full with water
3. Mix your colours away from your primaries
4. If your primaries get dirty, you have to clean them or you have ugly colours
5. Cyan is very strong, and yellow is quite weak
6. Use enough water so that your paint remains transparent.
7. It is easier to adjust a colour than to mix a perfect colour.
8. The opposite of a colour on the colour wheel is a complementary colour
9. If you mix complementary colours together you get a dark grey.

• Take your time and enjoy yourself

• It’s going to require several layers

​

• Things will look bad before they look good

​

• This is practice. It may take more than one try.

​

• The paint will dry lighter than it first appears

​

• Wet your paper before laying down your wash to get a smooth finish

​

• Your paint layers should be quite watery and thin at this stage

• Work lighter to darker considering the placement of highlights and shadows as you begin to build up your layers
