Wine Tourism in Ukraine. Wine Routes of Ukraine. Project Contribution.

Promoting the Black Sea Region as a Wine Tourism Destination

2 of 38

The unique climate of Ukraine makes it possible to produce wine in almost all regions of the country.

However, the main leaders are the western and southern regions . The most popular regions are Danube Bessarabia (Odesa region) and Transcarpathia (Zakarpattia region).There are wineries, whose histories go back to the nineteenth century, as well as new

private producers trying to conquer the market. Thus, despite their slow growth, the wineries here have such charm and quality that they are worth discovering.

  • 15 natural wine macrozones and 58 microzones (75.1 thousand

ha including Crimea)

  • 180 grape varieties (most of them are indigenous)
  • Ukrainian wine tourism is self-initiative of local communities and producers
  • 131 wineries
  • 67 “open wineries “

Route planning strategy

At this point, ONUT made three local travels around the Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions improving the database of wineries, HORECA objects, and tourist infrastructure for developing wine routes.

At the heart of our route planning strategy, we have laid the importance of terroir in the formation of wine. We have expanded the wine routes:

- city excursions;

  • achievements in winemaking of individual families;
  • national characteristics;
  • walks in the parks;
  • features of growing grapes and protection against its diseases;
  • ships invaluable for the Black Sea;
  • legends for tourists.
