Welcome to the first feature of the Tiered Fidelity Inventory - TFI 1.1.

When implementing the features of the TFI it is important to keep the goal of PBIS in mind. The goal of PBIS is that 80-90% of the students will be able to consistently demonstrate the behaviors that contribute to academic and social success when all adults model, teach and enforce those skills utilizing Proactive, Instructive and Restorative discipline approaches. The idea is simple; implementation is complex. Each feature in Tier 1 of the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) assists schools in developing the systems and policies to support implementation success.

In TFI 1.1, sites establish a diverse Team who both represents the school community and is committed to helping all staff model, teach and enforce pro-social behaviors.

I have a lot to learn about leading a Team, but I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Facilitator.

I was surprised to be asked to join the Team - They said the Custodian offers a perspective that was missing.

My experience with Special Ed. has taught me a lot about the ABC’s of Behavior. I think it’ll come in handy when we’re looking at school-wide behaviors.

Tier 1 team includes a Tier 1 systems coordinator, a school administrator, a family member, and individuals able to provide (a) applied behavioral expertise, (b) coaching expertise, (c) knowledge of student academic and behavior patterns, (d) knowledge about the operations of the school across grade levels and programs, and for high schools, (e) student representation.

Scoring TFI 1.1

2 Points:

Tier 1 Team exists with coordinator, administrator, and all identified roles represented, AND attendance of all roles is at or >80%.

1 Point:

Tier 1 Team exists but does not include all identified roles or attendance of these members is below 80%.

0 Points:

Tier 1 Team does not exist or does not include coordinator, school administrator, or individuals with applied behavior expertise.

Let’s look at the differences between a 0, a 1, and a 2 point score for TFI 1.1:

A zero point score indicates the site does not have a Team OR the site has a minimal Team but they do not have a coordinator, administrator, or a member with applied behavior expertise.
A one point score indicates the site has a Team that consists of at minimum a coordinator, administrator and someone with applied behavior expertise who all attend at least 80% of the meetings OR the site has a full Team, but all members do not attend 80% of the meetings.
A two point score indicates the site has a full Team who:

1. Attends at least 80% of all meetings,

2. Has an acting coordinator, administrator, and family member; AND

3. Has individuals able to provide: applied behavioral expertise, coaching expertise, knowledge of student academic and behavior patterns, knowledge about the operations of the school across grade levels and programs, and for high schools, student representation
