WALT: Do 2 digit subtraction using borrowing.

By Royden Giles

2 of 4

We start from the 1’s column.

We can’t do 8 - 9

So we have to borrow from our neighbour.

The 6 becomes a 5

The 8 becomes an 18.

3 of 4

Now to work out the answer we need to do 18 - 9.

We count backwards 9 from 18

Then the answer so far is 9 but that’s not the final answer.

We put the 9 at the bottom in the ones column.

4 of 4

Next we do 5 take away 2 and that is 3.

We put the 3 at the bottom of the 10’s column.

And that gives us our final answer.

The answer is 39.

So 68 - 29 =39.

So now you know how to solve 2 digit number problems.
