Rapid Shutdown Test:

IMPORTANT: Verify that the system will comply with NEC rapid shutdown requirements:

  • With the inverter on and producing power, measure DC voltage on a single string.

  • Turn off the inverter DC disconnect. Confirm that the voltage drops below 30 Volts within 10 seconds. If not, review the Sunrun SOP on APS Rapid Shutdown Installation to ensure that the APS units were installed correctly.

  • Repeat the steps above for each string of modules.

  • Once a successful rapid shutdown test has been performed, turn the DC disconnect back ON and verify that the system is up and running again.

POWER FLOW VERIFICATION: POWER ON

  • Scroll to the bottom of the Main Screen

  • Tap Power Flow

  • Tap Show Detail to show the detailed readings for import and export values.

NOTE: Selecting Show Detail shows the full power values, rather than abbreviated values. When taking required screenshots full values need to be displayed.

Step 13

Standard Operating Procedure

34 of 45

POWER FLOW VERIFICATION: POWER ON

  • Verify that all power import/export values add up correctly:

    • Identify the sources that are exporting power:
      • Solar
      • Battery, if “Discharging”
      • Grid, if showing a positive value

    • Identify the sources that are importing power:
      • Home loads
      • Battery, if “Charging”
      • Grid, if showing a negative value

  • The sum of all sources exporting power should be within 100 W of the sum of all sources that are importing power.

SUMMARY SCREEN

Take a screenshot of the summary.

Tap Menu > Additional Feature > Summary

NOTE: Upload the summary screenshot to the commissioning category of the FIC.

This will replace many of the individual screenshots previously required.

36 of 45

BACKUP MODE TEST

  • Simulate a grid outage by turning off power to the entire home.
    • Ensure there are readings from the PV system before taking the required Backup Mode Test photo.

NOTE: In some cases, the inverter will temporarily shut off for up to 5 minutes after the system goes into Backup mode. Wait for the PV system to begin producing again.

    • Leave the system in Backup Mode for a minimum of fifteen minutes to make sure there are no issues.

  • Make sure that some backed up loads are running (i.e., drawing power).

  • Still on the Power Flow screen, verify that the grid icon shows “OFF.”

Solar Only

Step 15

Standard Operating Procedure

37 of 45

  • Verify that all power import/export values add up correctly:

    • Identify the sources that are exporting power:
      • Solar
      • Battery, if “Discharging”

    • Identify the sources that are importing power:
      • Home loads
      • Battery, if “Charging”

  • The sum of all sources exporting power should be within 100 W of the sum of all sources that are importing power.

  • Again, if no Acrel meter, you just need to verify that power values are shown for the Solar and the Battery, and that the Battery shows as either Charging or Discharging

Step 15, cont’d

Standard Operating Procedure

38 of 45

Follow the SOP link that applies:

Step 16A: Describes the procedure for leaving the system on and in standby mode for remote activation.

Step 16B: Describes the procedure for leaving the system OFF.

Standard Operating Procedure

Step 16

SYSTEM LEAVE STATE

IMPORTANT: This step indicates the state a system is left in upon completion of the installation. This is typically dictated by the AHJs rules that either allow the system to remain ON and be activated remotely after Permission To Operate (PTO) is received, or the system remains OFF and requires someone to physically turn on the system after PTO.

39 of 45

  • If the AHJ/utility allows for remote activation of PV systems, set the system into Sleep Mode.

  • From the Menu, select Additional Feature > Tap Sleep Mode.

  • Tap “Go Sleep.”

  • Verify the inverter state has Sleep Mode “Enabled.”

LEAVE STATE: REMOTE ACTIVATION

Step 16A

Standard Operating Procedure

40 of 45

If the AHJ/utility does not allow remote activation of PV systems, ensure that all of the following are left in the OFF position:

  • Battery On/Off switch in the OFF position.

  • All AC disconnects.

  • All PV breakers.

  • Inverter DC disconnect.

  • Sunrun will contact the customer to walk them through activating the system, once PTO is granted.

LEAVE STATE: NO REMOTE ACTIVATION
