Speech Privacy Potential (SPP)

Practical range is form 60 – 90, less is no privacy and more than 90 is total privacy
75 SPP is typical office threshold to strive for
Neither the STC nor the NC should be used solely to determine the SPP
So for example, STC 40 partition generally provides a very good level of privacy, but only when it is combined with some level of background noise. Even the addition of NC of 35 raises the SPP from 40 to 75 and put it in the good range
Without some degree of background noise, it is unlikely that high levels of speech privacy can be obtained
Good acoustical designs combine acoustical separation through STC and reasonable background noise to achieve the desired SPP
With popular glass office fronts, it is not uncommon to have STC of 35. With low level background noise of 30 the SPP is still just 65, (poor). Muse either increase the STC somehow or rasie the NC via increased background noise (e.g. sound masking)
