All students have chromebooks, chargers, and carrying bags that they must return at the end of 8th grade.

These devices are the property of the school district.
They should be returned in good condition.
Parents/students will have to cover the cost of repairing or replacing a chromebook that is damaged or lost.
These devices are meant to be used for educational purposes only.

Students are provided with a District Google account with Gmail.
Students are required to use the District-provided Gmail when communicating with teachers and when signing up for accounts on websites mandated by teachers.
This email account only allows students to communicate with individuals within our District.

The camera on the Chromebook is to be used for instructional purposes only, as per the teacher's specifications.
In the event that a teacher elects to allow students to use the camera for an assignment, students are expected to ask permission before recording an individual or group.
Cameras may never be used in areas such as restrooms or locker rooms, as per State regulation.

The district reserves the right to monitor, access, and review all messages and information on Chromebooks.
The district utilizes an Internet content filter that is in compliance with the federally mandated Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
All Chromebooks, regardless of physical location (in or out of school) will have all Internet activity protected and monitored by the school district. If a website is blocked in school, then it will be blocked out of school.

Some of those make it more difficult to differentiate between what is safe or not safe.
Many of them are designed for adults and then adopted by kids because they can sign up without anything other than clicking a few boxes and an email address.

Snapchat
A private messaging app known for photos and short videos that are automatically deleted after they've been viewed.
Content can live on in screenshots and data recovery. Teens who believe that snaps disappear may engage in risky or inappropriate behavior.
TikTok
An app that allows users to view, create, and share 15-second videos on any topic.
TikTok trends and challenges are a popular part of the app that change often.
While some are harmless, others can be dangerous or inappropriate.
Platform to share photos and videos with followers.
Users add and edit photos and short videos to share with friends and followers.
Users try to gain followers and get “likes.”
