NO MORE RED/WHITE/BLUE GAME BALL

  • To: Volleyball Coaches, Officials and Athletic Directors
  • From: Davine Davis, MSHSAA
  • Re: Red, White and Blue Volleyball
  • In January, the Board of Directors approved a recommendation from the Volleyball Advisory Committee to use the red, white and blue Baden game ball during regular season contests, excluding tournaments.  Due to the supply shortage of this ball, MSHSAA has suspended the implementation of this procedure for 2022-23 school year.  Thank you.

QUESTION FROM LAST WEEK

  • Since an exceptional substitution (when there’s an injury/illness and no legal substitutes are available) counts as a team substitution, what happens when a team has used all 18 team subs and an exceptional sub situation arises?

  • RULE 10-3-6: An exceptional sub is allowed in this situation. The player cannot return to the set but can return in subsequent set(s).

ASSIGNOR ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Officials must check into Arbiter and click on Schedule tab daily. We have had lots of changes and expect lots more.
  • Please continue to email Don Gard and David Thompson every Sunday with your open dates for the upcoming week. This helps with communication and scheduling.
  • Keep your uniform handy (in your vehicle?) in case of last minute assignments

18 of 62

ASSIGNOR ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Be aware that some schools decide they aren’t able to fill C-Silver or other teams and matches need to be cancelled
  • If that significantly impacts your schedule, the assignors will attempt to get you other matches, if possible

20 of 62

CHECK YOUR CALENDAR

  • C-team match and varsity line judge at Pembroke Hill on Thurs., Sept. 15
  • Contact Mark Sevy at 816-223-5557

21 of 62

TIPS FOR WORKING SOLO

  • Visit with the administrator on duty and both coaches to alert them to the situation
  • Go through your normal pre-match routine – assume both R1 (line judges) and R2 duties (scorer’s table)
  • Work with scorer on substitutions – whistle from stand, release players when scorer is ready
  • Net and center line violations are very difficult – you will probably miss some as you can’t watch the net and the ball simultaneously
  • Be aware of coaches requesting timeouts from the stand in between rallies

LIBERO REPLACEMENT SITUATIONS

  • On the next screen:
    • The red team’s (on the left) libero (#33) is in for #30
    • The blue team’s libero (#2) is in for #4

LIBERO REPLACEMENT SITUATIONS

  • A double replacement means that two libero replacements happened simultaneously:
    • #4 replaced the libero
    • The libero stays in, replaced #7, and went back to serve
    • This is the only time where two regular players can complete a replacement outside the attack line
