Making “The Youngest”
An Album by Jack Fay
An Album by Jack Fay
Proposal: I will write, perform, record, mix, and master an EP.
Origins
I make all kinds of music.
Ever since I applied to SAI, I had this idea in the back of my mind.
I knew that no matter what I did, I would be using the studio for music anyway, so...
Eventually, the possibility of a full-length album fell into place quite organically (all it took was going a little insane)

First Step
“Next Time Around”
Stephan’s “Intro to Sound Production” class.
Recorded poorly.
Four sessions.
I really really wanted to get better (and use only Pro Tools).
Next Steps
“Back Outside (feat. Yuxin Lu)”
Alex’s “Advanced Sound Production” class.
My first musical collaboration! (thank you so much to Yuxin)
Set the groundwork for the range of musical aesthetics/styles on the album.
32 sessions
~150 hours

“If things go according to plan, I may have enough music for an album… If I go into the studio at least twice a week until the quarter is over, I believe it is possible to have all eight of these songs done by the symposium date. (If not, I will still have enough for a long EP!)” [Excerpt from my proposal]
Runtime: 46 minutes, 58 seconds
Between the day I got to Chicago last fall and today, I have listened to 268 albums.
What inspired me the most? Well, uh...
Alex’s impressions
