Daily Schedule

  • Daily Folder-HW, Tests, Information
  • Weekly Packet–Spelling Activities, Reading Comprehension, & Math Practice Pages
  • HW starts Monday, due Friday morning
  • Read at least 20 minutes per night
  • Consistent late, incomplete, and/or poorly done work will result in a lowered homework/ classwork grade
  • Incomplete/missing assignments may result in completing work during recess
  • Your child should be the person most responsible for their own homework

  • A minimum of 20 minutes of reading per night
  • A computerized test will be taken each trimester to determine each student’s ZPD (zone of proximal development) and level of reading.
    • Reading skills improve in ZPD
    • A score of 2.2 would mean second grade, second month
  • Use ARbookfinder.com to find level of book
  • AR Tests can be taken in the classroom.
  • Students who read 100% or 150% of their goal will be recognized at our award assemblies.
  • Students who meet their goal all three trimesters will be invited to a special celebration at the end of the year.

Accelerated Reader

  • Students take a computerized test in both language arts and math to determine their current levels
  • Lessons are tailored to skills they can practice and grow
  • Students will be rewarded each trimester for completing a minimum of 2 lessons weekly on iReady for reading and/or math
  • Students who complete complete their lessons all three trimesters will be invited to a special celebration at the end of the year

i-Ready

  • When students go “above and beyond,” they are rewarded with Top Hawks. Top Hawks are then used to “buy” prizes at the Top Hawk store on Fridays during lunch

“Choices” Behavior System

  • Standards Based Report Cards match Common Core Standards–summative assignments will receive a 4, 3, 2, or 1
  • Work that has been reviewed but not graded will be indicated by a stamp, sticker, a check mark, or red correction
  • PE Grades: Based on daily effort, participation, and competency
    • Please make sure appropriate shoes are worn Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, & Fri.

  • Each student will have a class chromebook checked out to them for classroom assignment use
  • Students are directed on specific sites and assignments—computer privileges may be taken away if other websites are accessed without permission
  • Procedures and care have been reviewed with students
  • Students are responsible for damages

If you are available to volunteer during any of these parties, please sign up on on the volunteer sheet left on the back counter. If there are a multitude of volunteers, I will try to spread out the opportunities to make things fair.

Schoolwide Parties

  • Student recognized and celebrated in class
  • A book may be donated to the classroom library in honor of the student’s birthday.
  • Goodie bags may be passed out to each classmate at the end of the school day.
  • PLEASE do NOT SEND PARTY INVITATIONS to pass out at school UNLESS you intend to INVITE THE ENTIRE class or at least ALL THE GIRLS or ALL THE BOYS to help avoid hurt feelings.
