Proximity - Fix Spacing to Group Facts

Using visual space to show relationships with content.

Related items are grouped together.

Groups not related should be separated.

Makes it easier to understand at a glance.

White Space - Fix Crowding

Not literally white, just negative space.

Negative space is the area between content, lines, and outer margins.

When a design feels too cluttered, white space may help.

Alignment - Line Content Up For Consistency

Many programs align text automatically (example; email).

Most important thing is to be consistent. Imagine that everything is on a grid, that everything is spaces evenly.

Without consistent alignment, work feels un-organized.

Contrast - Fix Contrast To Help Readers

One item is different from another.

It can help catch the reader’s eye, create emphasis, or call attention to something important.

You can use this with color, size, or styles of text.

Hierarchy is created using contrast. (What should people notice first, second, etc?)

Repetition

(Fix This Slide To Be Like The Others)

Every project should have a consistent look and feel by repeating certain elements.

This can be done with a color pallet, header style, font, and more.

Consistency makes it easier to read, and viewers can focus more.
