DEFINITION OF TITLE I:

  • Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or at most risk of falling behind.
  • Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of student receiving free/reduced lunch.
  • Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a schoolwide program.

SCHOOLWIDE MEANS:

  • The school uses Title I funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school.

  • Title I funds are used to serve all children in order to raise academic achievement.

  • Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets.

TO BE A “SCHOOLWIDE” SCHOOL:

  • The school must have a free/reduced lunch count of at least 40%.

  • The school must collect and analyze data that effects student achievement.

  • The school must develop a comprehensive site plan and annually review the effectiveness of the plan.

Purpose Statement:

We serve our diverse community of learners through collaboration, accountability and best teacher practices. We engage our families by investing in community partnerships to provide opportunities for a world-class education.

SCHOOL WIDE GOALS

  • All KDG - 4th scholars below the 40th percentile will grow by 2 achievement percentile from BOY to MOY and another 3 achievement percentile from MOY to EOY for a total percentile growth goal of 5 percentile from BOY to EOY. All KDG - 4th scholars at or above the 40th percentile will maintain that percentile from BOY to MOY to EOY.
  • (ex. A KDG at the 15th percentile at BOY has a RIT of 127, their EOY goal will be to grow to the 20th percentile by EOY and would have a RIT of 147. Growth of 20 total RIT points).
  • Pre-K scholars will know 10+ letters and sounds by December 15 and 20+ letters and sounds by May.

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES:

  • Like last year, we are focused on increasing our Tier 1 instruction which means intentional planning and putting an emphasis on instructional strategies that are taught the first time with the whole class.

  • Curriculum that we are using are district purchased programs:

  • Reading: Into Reading/3 Cheers for PK
  • Phonics: Reading Horizons
  • Phonemic Awareness: Heggerty
  • Math: Calendar Math & Math In Focus/3 Cheers for PK
  • Science: Twig
  • Social Studies: Studies Weekly

ASSESSMENT:

  • This year OKCPS has adopted NWEA national benchmark screener for KDG – 4th grade.

  • Pre-KDG takes a benchmark on Cognitive Toybox.

  • 3rd – 4th Grade also participates in District Benchmarks for Reading & Math that are similar to the OSTP (state assessments)

PARENT’S RIGHT TO KNOW – �NON-HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS

  • Schools are required to notify parents if their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly qualified.

  • Fill out a volunteer form on OKCPS.

  • I encourage everyone to spend at least 20 minutes reading each night with your child.

RIGHT TO REQUEST MEETINGS

  • Upon the request of parents, the school must provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children.
  • The school must respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
