Choose a Political Party?

Pennsylvania's CLOSED Primary-- what does it mean?

    • Only members of two major political parties can vote

    • Democrats choose Democrats; Republicans can choose Republicans--on different ballots

    • Winning candidates appear on General Election ballot.

Must I choose a party?

    • When you register, can choose any party, or none

    • No "Independent" party in PA; can choose "non-affiliated"

    • Minor parties: Libertarian and Green & "Political bodies": Keystone and Forward

Any voter can vote for any candidate in any party in the General Election.

Also, any voter in any party can vote in any election when

there is a ballot question, constitutional amendment or a special election.
