APPLYING TO HIGH SCHOOL

Your Neighborhood School

Schools Outside your Neighborhood

  • Every street address in the city of Chicago is assigned one attendance area (or “neighborhood”) elementary or high school.
  • In most cases, your child can attend your designated neighborhood school without having to submit an application.
  • For information on enrolling your child in your neighborhood school, contact the school directly.
  • To find your neighborhood school, visit the CPS School Locator at cps.edu/map.

  • For any other school, you will have to submit an application if you want your child to be considered for enrollment.
  • You are not restricted to schools that are close to your home; there are a wide variety of academic options throughout the city.
  • Applications are submitted the year before your child will enroll – if your child will enroll in fall 2022, you will submit your application in fall 2021.

Students are guaranteed a seat in the general education program of their neighborhood school and they do not have to apply to attend. If families are interested in their neighborhood school, we encourage them to include it on their application in their order of preference.

Kelvyn Park CTE Programs

Career-focused experiential learning programs, sometimes called Career and Technical Education (CTE), provide students with opportunities to explore careers and gain marketable skills while still in high school.

Allied Health: Students in the Allied Health program will learn the structures and functions of the body, practice taking vital signs, and earn CPR and First Aid certification. Taking part in Allied Health will provide students with a strong foundation in the field of healthcare and will allow the opportunity to earn certifications and internships in various areas such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, or nurse assisting.

Digital Media: Students are introduced to the ever growing array of new media forms. Students who are interested in becoming producers, directors, journalists, website designers, and multimedia artists can explore their interests in these pathways.
