Budget Basics

  • Westlawn PTA is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
    • See: Virginia PTA Uniform By-laws: https://vapta.org/bylaws/
  • Required to run a balanced budget - i.e., expenses and fundraising should be about equal (*within reason)
  • Anything over $500 must be voted on
  • In October, a full budget will be presented to be voted on by the membership

24-25: Budget Review

Net Funds Raised: $9,329

Spent: $13,108

Bank Account Balance: $24,374

  • About $10,000 for budgeting this year’s activities
  • $14,000 in prior year funds. Note: Net bank decrease of -$4,175 this past year
  • Funds can always be voted on to be spent; Caution! These funds are not always available
    • Decrease in balance, lower fund raising, economy, etc. - Times are tough!
    • Eg: water filters, playground equipment, and additional funds for field trips*

Restaurant Nights $1,263

Biggest Expenses:

Field Trips $5,965

Teacher Appreciation $3,112

Numerous smaller events (walk to school, 6th grade, etc)

  • Several events brought in funds, but had a net total expense associated with them
  • Scholastic Book Fair - $10,237
  • Full budget details are at the end of the presentation

25-26: We need a new treasurer

  • Everything for the year is setup and ready to go
    • Taxes filed, books cleaned up, audit in progress, insurance quoted
    • I can stay on as an additional signature
  • I will be available to help, make sure there’s a smooth transition, and walk someone through the requirements for the year
  • I keep clean records, and the monthly report is mostly automated
  • You get to work with me!
