Meet at least monthly with the mentor (in person, phone, or virtual) - duration and frequency determined in collaboration between mentors and mentees
Pick a minimum of 3 other observation experiences

Awaken Awareness – The space awakens liberatory awareness in ourselves and others. It reveals dynamics of dominant power, deepens our understanding of self and others, and honors the wisdom and legacy of ancestors who struggled for liberation.

Rooted in Culture and Context – The space is rooted in the knowledge, cultures, histories of people who hold marginalized identities and is responsive to the specific local contexts of the groups or individuals involved.

Build Community – The space allows people to build community together, characterized by true belonging where we honor both our differences and what binds us together.

Encourage Healing – The space encourages healing from the divisions of dominant power, and from internalised, interpersonal and systemic oppression and trauma.

Inspire Imagination – The space inspires us to imagine different realities shaped by liberation. To creatively explore possibilities that reach beyond the limits of what we have experienced in the past and present.

Grow Agency – The space encourages us to recognise and grow our individual and collective power to create change. We learn knowledge skills and practices that allows us to both navigate the current reality and transform it.

Joia Miller is a student studying Biology at Mt. San Jacinto College. She aspires to transfer to Columbia University to double major in Biochemistry and Neurobiology, in order to complete her education with the primary objective of using entrepreneurial ideology as well as research to create a resounding societal and�medical impact through her work as a Neurosurgeon and Neuroscientist, concentrating her research in neurochemistry. She’s passionate about Neurology and bridging the gap between governmental programs, schools, and the students as well as human rights such as educational and economic equity, which she plans to continue working towards in her advocacy journey. In her free time, she enjoys doing yoga, skating, and cooking vegan food, specializing in meals that heal the soul and the microbiome!

👩🏽‍🏫 Passionate Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship instructor, currently shaping the minds of future leaders as Business Faculty (Tenure Track) at Los Angeles Valley College and Adjunct Business Faculty at Antelope Valley College and College of the Canyons.

✊🏽 Committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Advocacy (DEIAA) work, driving positive change within the community and beyond. And current FELA mentee, woop woop

Dr. Khalid White

Dr. Khalid White (He/Him/His) is an award-winner in the fields of Education, Film and Literature. A career educator, Khalid began educating California’s youth and young adults in 2004. Presently, he is an African-American Studies Professor at San Jose City College. As an entrepreneur, Khalid owns the multi-media company Blkmpwr (Black Empower), LLC. www.blkmpwr.com The company focuses on education, empowerment, and equity.

A proud HBCU alum and CA Community College advocate, Khalid is a co-founder of the Pipelines to Possibilities (P2P) program, connecting the two systems of higher education to increase faculty diversity. https://pipelines2possibilities.org

Khalid continues to serve in the intersections of education, public health, and community, advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice.
