Purpose for this Session…

Infinite Campus is the new SIS for North Carolina. While there are many similarities in the functionality and purpose of PowerSchool and Infinite Campus; there are navigational, vernacular, and UI (user interface) differences between the two.

Our purpose today is to introduce you to reports and miscellaneous features in Infinite Campus and provide you with resources that are easily accessible.

From this Gradebook screen, you can click the expand arrow to get an overview of class Grade Totals including:

  • Grade and Comments for Report Cards

  • In-Progress grades - how your students are currently doing

  • Grades by Category

>Posted Grades are finalized grades that have been posted to the student’s Grades tab along with transcripts and report cards.

>In Progress Grades are calculated based on scores entered for the student and recalculate each time scores are updated.

>Categories show percentages based on scores entered for assignments aligned to each category.

You can collapse the Grade Totals section to see only assignment details.

  • Clicking in any box under an assignment allows you to enter/change the grade for that student’s assignment.

  • Each assignment header tells you the abbreviated name, the due date, the category, and the point value of the assignment.

  • Always be sure to Save any changes you make on this page.

From the Gradebook, you can access the Settings by clicking the expand arrows. This allows you to change the Grade Book Setup (1) and your Preferences. (**Some features are predetermined by the district.)

In addition, you can Add (2) a new assignment and choose how you want to view your assignments by using Sort and Filter (3).

Open the Settings menu by clicking the blue Settings toggle to the left of the Save button. This menu provides a variety of tools for managing assignments and grades.

Gradebook-Student List

Click the student's name to view additional student details, including demographics, contact, and household information.

Click the blue arrow next to a student's name to expand that student's row in the grade book and view more information:

  • Basic information is listed for the student, including ID#, date of birth, student groups they are a member of, and the last time they logged into Campus Student.
  • The Grades Summary displays a list of In Progress or Posted grades for each task and term the student is in that section.
  • Comments entered here display in the Campus Student and Campus Parent Portals.
  • Click Screenshot of Hide Others button to filter the grade book to a single student. In that view, use the Previous and Next buttons to page through other students in the section.

Clicking in the area to the right (1) of the student’s name opens up grade/graph information (2) for that student and gives you access to the Grades Summary (3) for that student. Click the Hide Others (4) button to show only that student’s data.

To add the assignment to other sections, click Add/Edit and then the Add Sections button

Filter this section list by Term, Period, or Course/Section Groups at the top.

Click Add next to any section to add it to the assignment.

Any sections that already include this assignment are listed at the bottom in Existing Schedules.

Click OK when finished.

You can also score assignments by going to the specific assignment. To do that, click on the assignment name from the Grade Book.

You can fill scores or comments by clicking on the down arrow to the right of each. You can also fill Turned In flags.

This opens up a screen where you can enter scores, comments, and flags for each student. If you are using Campus Learning, you can see student work in that column. Be sure to click Save.

When meeting with students, click on the eyeball to hide all students other than the one with whom you are meeting.

Scoring Assignments - Flags

24

There are 7 possible flags that could be selected when scoring an assignment:

  1. Turned In - Especially important if using the LMS.
  2. Missing - Choosing this flag could automatically assign a score of 0. Dependent on PSU.
  3. Late - No effect on student score.
  4. Incomplete - No effect on student score.
  5. Cheated - Score appears marked through and is automatically calculated as 0.
  6. Exempt - Score appears marked through and turns gray. Will not display in student or parent view.
  7. Drop Score - Not included in grade calculations. Can be set to drop lowest grade automatically.

Section Groups

Creating Section Groups (multiple sections of the same subject that you teach - i.e. 9th-grade English) allows you to score assignments for multiple sections at one time. To create a Section Group, access the Settings menu from the Grade Book by clicking on the expand arrow to the left of Settings.

From the Settings menu, click on Section Groups. A Section Groups window will open. Any groups you have previously created will be listed there. Choose the group you wish to edit or click Add in the bottom right hand corner of the screen to create a new group.

Type a Name for your group, then click in the box under Active for each section you wish to include in the group. When you are finished, click on Save.

To access your Section Group, open a section that is in the group and click Grades. At the top of the Grade Book, click on the down arrow beside Section and choose the group you want. This shows a Grade Book with students from all sections in the group and you can score as usual.

Review posted grades (both percent (1) and letter grade (2)) and make modifications if needed. Enter any comments in the Rpt Crd Comments (3) column. CC (canned comments) are created by districts ahead of time and will vary. To view the Canned Comments list (4), click on CC (5). Click Save (6) when you are finished.

Posting grades occurs at the end of a term. This is basically what teachers did in PowerSchool when they added report card comments and reviewed/updated term grades. You will only be able to post when an IC administrator (at the school or district level) opens the grading window. At that point, the word “Post” will turn red in the Grade Book. **If any assignment grades change, re-”Post” grades.

To post grades, click on the section you want from the Teaching Center, then click Grades (1). Double check that you are in the correct term (2), task (3), and section (4). Expand the Grade Totals section (5) in the Grade Book. Click on the word Post (6).

When you click Post, the Post Grades flyout menu opens. Choose the term and task you want to post to. (These should be the same as those you selected in the Grade Book. Once you have made sure everything is correct, click OK to post grades.

1. Under the Main Menu, click on Instruction.

2. Under Grades, click on Post Grades. This opens the Post by Standard/Grading Task window. (You could also click on Post Grades from the left-side menu in the Grades tab.

The next window is for entering comments. You can fill in district-provided canned comments by clicking on CC, choosing the comment you want, and clicking the down arrow button to the right of CC. If you wish to make changes to comments for certain students, click on Comment beside the section in which you wish to make change. Once you are finished making changes, click Next.
