Please note the links to the Weekly Agenda - it is a Google Slide, and just gets a new slide per week, so you can see everything we have done since Day 1.

Agenda

This is a permanent slideshow - available both on the school website page, as well as on Schoology. I share with students as class is beginning to go over that day’s lessons & activities.

Schoology & PowerSchool Grades

All assignments are in Schoology, and are graded there.

After I finish grading a set of assignments, I click the SYNC button to send the grades over to PowerSchool.

Usually, this means everything is in sync (same grades in both), but periodically there are differences. If you or your student see a difference, please have the student email me so I can investigate. It may just be a timing issue (you caught the score in PS before I synced), or there may actually be an error I need to go fix.

If you see a comment with the grades of “SGY” that means a more detailed comment was attached directly to the assignment in Schoology. The student will need to look at their submission to see the comment.

If you see SGY, then click the “Assignment submitted” button, and that will allow you to see the assignment, and any comments left.

Schoology: Parent Access

An email will go out soon to parents explaining to them how to find their unique code and how to create their account in Schoology. Once they have an account, they will have access to all their child’s classes and can customize their notification settings.

Here are directions for parents to find the code in Parent Portal yourselves.

Once you have your code, here are directions for parents to help you create an account.

Lastly, here is a Schoology Parent Guide that has other links such as how you can opt-in for daily or weekly email digests or customize you notification settings.

Daily Bell Work [DBW]

On the Materials page, there is a folder for each day’s assignments, including the Daily Bell Work [DBW], which is “locked” 20 minutes after class starts (and after we have shared with each other what was in the DBW].

DBW’s cannot be made up, and once locked they cannot be done. The whole concept of a DBW is that it is the Work done Daily at the start of class with the Bell. Students who are absent will have the DBW excused with their excused absence.

Vocab

Every week, students are assigned a short set of vocabulary words to hand-write, upload a photo of their work, and then take a quiz on the last day of the week.

The words are released either late in class on Quiz day (after their quiz for the previous week’s work) or after class, and are due by the tardy bell of Quiz day (typically Thursday the following week for Web Design).

While a Vocab Quiz will be excused with an excused absence, the Vocab words are not, as students have a full week to complete them. The Vocab assignment is LOCKED with the tardy bell on Quiz Day.

Late Work

All other work is typically due by the end of the day (11:59pm) the day it is assigned in class. However, I do not typically deduct for late submissions [certain projects are different, and that will be clearly explained at that time].

What then happens the next day, when I am checking in all the work from the previously day, I will mark any non-submissions Zero [0] - Missing. The expectation is that the student complete and turn in the work, for up to full-credit. These are skills-based classes, and students need to learn these skills.

Chromebook

Almost all work is done via the student’s Chromebook in class, and anything done by hand is usually referencing information on the Chromebook.

Students are expected to bring their fully charged Chromebook to class everyday, and if they know they will (or may) have battery issues, they need to bring a charger with them.

I have plenty of plugs in the room, with a few spare chargers.

Mac Laptop

This year, we have a Macintosh Laptop Mobile Cart to utilize. We are still in the process of getting all students logged in (today only half the students were able to access), so will be continuing with Photopea, until all can log in .

Then we will move into using Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator.

Apps

Students will be using a variety of applications on their Chromebooks, specific for their course:

  • Photopea (online version of Photoshop)
  • Adobe Express
  • Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator [Mac Laptops only]
  • CodeHS (learning HTML & CSS)

Advantage - students have access at home, and don’t have to arrange time in computer lab to make-up/catch-up work.

Meet my Family

My husband and I have been married for 34 years, and we have 4 children [27 - 33] .

Yes, we had 3 teenage boys in high school at one time (9th, 11th & 12th graders). They are all great now, but you’ll notice my husband is a lot grayer. 😉

Speaking of gray, we are going to be grandparents in December. Wish us well.

While this is my 32th year teaching, it is my 26th here at Redondo Union High School. Go Sea Hawks!
