research and researchers. Muslim Society Inc. (MSI) Background

  • Located in Glendale Heights
  • Serving the community and surrounding suburbs since the early 1990’s
  • MSI has grown from a full time Masjid to an active Islamic center catering to over a 1,000 individuals and still growing
  • Holds all 5 prayers, two weekly Friday prayers and a variety of other programs and services

As a scientist, clean energy entrepreneur and CEO, and now as a Member of Congress representing the western suburbs of Chicago, Congressman Sean Casten has dedicated his life to fighting climate change. Casten draws upon his previous private sector experience in Congress to craft market-based solutions to reduce emissions while creating jobs and spurring economic growth.

Casten serves on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and is the Vice Chair of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets. He also serves as Co-Chair on the New Democrat Coalition Climate Change Task Force.

Kara Murphy

Kara Murphy, MS is the President of the DuPage Health Coalition, a nonprofit whose mission is to coordinate efficient and effective health access for low income uninsured and underinsured residents of DuPage County. DHC’s largest program is Access DuPage, coordinating comprehensive healthcare for 6,000 uninsured DuPage County residents annually; 65,000 patients since program launch. DHC also operates Silver Access, an ACA premium assistance program, DuPage Dispensary of Hope (a free pharmacy), and COVID-19 related programming including PPE distribution and wide scale community vaccination efforts (COVID-19, influenza).

Ms. Murphy was previously the co investigator for a number of NIH/NCI funded community based participatory research grants in cooperation with Northwestern University and Feinberg School of Medicine. A graduate of Benedictine University and Grinnell College, Kara is an adjunct professor in nonprofit leadership at North Central College. Active on a number of local boards and planning councils, she is co-chair of Impact DuPage and HEART, DuPage County’s Health Equity and Access Response Team. She is also a member of the NM Institutional Review Board.

Dr. Mimi Doll

Candeo Consulting, Inc., a consulting firm specializes in work with community-serving organizations, health, educational, and governmental institutions, and coalitions. Services include: needs and asset assessment, program development and evaluation, organizational capacity building, and grant writing.

With a strong foundation in qualitative research, including focus groups, interviews, listening sessions and town halls, Mimi strives to hear the story of people’s lives and channel this into actionable strategies for change. Dr. Doll is dedicated to addressing the structural, community and individual concerns that give rise to health and social inequities. For past two decades Dr. Doll has been bringing stakeholders together and find multi-sectorial solutions to complex health and social challenges. She values including a variety of stakeholders at the table, recognizing that nuanced solutions are reached when all voices are heard.

Prior to the inception of Candeo Consulting, Inc. in 2009, Mimi has fulfilled several research and evaluation related roles in health, education and social services including project director of a federally-funded HIV prevention program serving adolescents in therapeutic school settings, coordinator of a federally- funded structural change and community mobilization intervention aimed at reducing adolescent HIV risk, as well as consultant and evaluator on a variety of initiatives and programs including violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, sexual risk prevention, organizational capacity development, and service learning.
