What is Wasiyyat?

  • The Arabic word “Wasiyyat” means will
  • Traditionally, a will refers to a person’s wishes after their death
  • In this case, Wasiyyat is a spiritual and financial scheme initiated by the Promised Messiah (as) for the members of the Jama’at
  • The Promised Messiah (as) wrote the book Al-Wasiyyat (The Will) in Urdu in 1905
  • By joining the Wasiyyat scheme and following its conditions, you will attain Allah’s love and higher levels of righteousness
  • A person who joins the Wasiyyat scheme is known as a Moosi

Divine Love and Righteousness

  • In the Holy Qur’an, Allah ta’ala says, “Never shall you attain righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love” (Chapter 3, verse 93).
    • Discussion: what things are being referred to when Allah ta’ala says “spend out of that which you love?”
  • The Promised Messiah (as) says in the book, The Will, “Don’t fall in love with the pleasures of the world, for they take you away from God…The pain which pleases God is better than the pleasure which makes Him angry. And the defeat which pleases God is better than the victory which invites the wrath of Allah. Renounce the love which brings you nearer to the wrath of Allah. If by purifying your hearts you come to Him, He will help you whichever path you tread and no enemy shall ever be able to harm you” (pg. 9)

A Great Reward

  • The Promised Messiah (as) also states,
    • Rejoice and be happy that the field of achieving nearness to God is vacant. Every nation is in love with the world and to what pleases God the world pays no attention. Now is the time for those who wish to enter this door that they, mustering all their strength, show their mettle and win the much coveted prize from God. Don't think that God will let you go to waste. You are the seed which the Hand of God has sown in the earth. God says that this seed will grow and flower and its branches will spread in all directions and it will become a huge tree. So, blessed is one who believes in what God says and does not fear the trials which he suffers in His path” (pg. 12)

A Special Graveyard

  • The Promised Messiah (as) was shown a graveyard in a vision:
    • “I was shown a place which was named Bahishti Maqbarah and it was conveyed to me that it contained the graves of such righteous members of the Jama‘at as are destined to dwell in heaven” (pg. 22)
  • For the first graveyard he donated his personal garden in Qadian. He himself is buried there along with thousands of other Moosiyan
  • The Promised Messiah (as) continued, “And let no one wonder how, by just being buried in this graveyard, one can enter Paradise. The idea behind it all is not that this piece of land will make anyone worthy of Heaven; rather the Word of God means that only those will be buried here who are worthy of Heaven” (pg. 30)

Conditions of Joining Wasiyyat

  • Lead a truthful and righteous life
  • Abstain from all that is prohibited
  • Avoid Shirk (associating partners with Allah) and innovation in faith
  • Be a true and sincere Muslim
  • Give 1/10th (up to 1/3rd) of his income and 1/10th of his property after death to the Jama’at for the propagation of Islam
  • Note: many of us hesitate to join Wasiyyat because of this last condition. Trust in Allah is key, and if you trust in Him then you should have the belief that He will provide for you if you are sincere in faith

Special Emphasis by Khalifatul Masih (aba)

  • Hazur (aba) stated, “My wish is that earning members in every Jama’at in every country of the world, as are Chanda payers, at least 50% of them enroll in this grand system established by the Promised Messiah (as)
  • “Such people would enroll in it as are thoughtful about a goodly ending and are sincere worshippers. Hence, Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya should participate in it with increasing fervor. Hopefully, Ahmadi youth as well as ladies will fully strive towards it”
  • “This is such a revolutionary Nizam that if a person joins it with true intentions, and after joining makes an honest effort towards self-improvement, then with the blessings of this Nizam, the long spiritual journey that would have taken years would be covered in days and one which otherwise requires days will be covered in hours.” (Jalsa Salana UK, Concluding Address, 2004)

Special Emphasis by Hazrat Musleh Ma’ud (ra)

“In short, the foundations of the New Order were not laid in Russia in 1910 or in any other country, nor will they be laid in future after the present war. As a matter of fact the New Order, which is designed to bring comfort and prosperity to every human being and to safeguard true religion, was founded in 1905 in Qadian. The world is in need of no other New Order.”

Special Emphasis by Hazrat Musleh Ma’ud (ra)

“It would not be correct to assume that the money collected under the system can only be spent on the propagation of Islam. I have already quoted Al-Wasiyyat to show that this fund is to be used for the achievement of several objects. The Promised Messiah (as) has stated that all plans calculated to promote the spread of Islam in the world would be fit objects on which to spend these funds. Only, it was premature to describe those plans in detail. This means clearly that many of these objects could be explained only in the future. When Islam is given practical effect and its beauties began to be appreciated, there will be several purposes on which it would not only be proper but necessary to spend money out of this fund.”

“Further, the Promised Messiah (as) has drawn attention to the orphans and the needy and has pointed out that they also would be entitled to relief out of this fund. These words point to the Islamic social and economic system under which it is directed that food, clothing, shelter, medical relief and means of education must be provided for every human being. In the circumstances of today this New World Order cannot be accomplished by means of taxes alone. It is necessary that wealth and property should be devoted towards this purpose.”
