Reserves Calculation

  • Best practice for nonprofit organizations is to have reserve money in the bank, in case of emergency.

  • DSA’s reserve policy is 6 months of personnel and fixed expenses.

  • As of December 31, 2023 Available Money after Reserves is $580,966.

Historical Reserves Data

7

  • The organization has been fortunate to have had significant available monies above reserves since 2020.

  • Now we are at a point in time where those monies are lower than in the last 4 years

  • The challenge of planning the 2024 budget is now before us.

2024 Budget Drafts

9

  • Note the tentative deficit of $1,240,303.

  • Recall from slide 6, the Available Money after Reserves was $580,966.

  • Therefore the Budget & Finance Committee has recommended a deficit of no more than $500,000.

  • So we will have to cut expenses or increase income.
