Introduction

Slope is the angle of a line that faces away from the horizontal. Slope can be recognized in three formats: Undefined, Positive, Negative, and Zero. And is a valuable step taught by Mrs. Sparks in Algebra 1.

Undefined Slope Def.

Undefined Slope- slope that cannot be determined because it favors neither posotive nor negative.

4 of 11

Undefined Slope ex.

A flag pole is a good example.

So is the trunk of

of this tree.

5 of 11

Positive Slope Def.

Positive Slope- positive slope favors towards the right side and goes in an upward posture.

6 of 11

Positive Slope ex.

So are stairs… and

mountains.

7 of 11

Negative Slope def.

Negative Slope- Negative slope favors downward and shows how something is decreasing.

8 of 11

Negative Slope ex.

Kinda like rolling down a

hill, or the angle on a

roof, or the way rain

falls on a

roof.

9 of 11

Zero Slope Def.

Zero slope- is when the angle sequentially “flatlines” and shows no movement.

Zero Slope ex.

For example this bridge, heart monitor, and the bottom of this slide. :)
