*SLOW DOWN :

Above all , if you want to be understood , slow down. The more clearly you speak, the better chance your listener has of understanding you. Its tempting to get nervous and want to speed up to get it all over with ,but you cant do that !clarity is key—for some native english speakers , too!

*RECORD YOURSELF :

Though we hear ourselves all the time,we really don’t want know quite what we sound like , so record yourself ! What are the weak and strong points you hear in your speech? And then you can concentreate on what you need to work on. A great idea is to get a book on tape, record youself reading an expert from it (or mimicking the narrator), and comparing yourself to recording . That way you can do it over and over until you get it right !

This the biggest , easiest mistake to make.

You go about your day . You're on the job working party in english , you go to your english class, and then you go home and revert back to your native tongue.

STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILLS

  • Effective instructors teach students speaking strategies using minimal responses , recognizing scripts , and using language – that they can use to help themselves expand their knowledge of the language and their confidence in using it .

  • 1. using minimal responces :

Language leamers who lack in confidence in their ability to participate successfully in oral interaction often listen in silence while others do the talking . One way to encourage such leamers to begin to participate is to  help them build up a stock of minimal responses that they can use in different types of exchanges.

Such responses can be especially usefull for beginners .

  • 2.Recognizing scripts:

Some communication situations are associated with a predictable set of spoken exchanges – a script . Greetings , apologies, compliments , invitations , and other functions that are influenced by social and cultural norms often follow patterns or scripts . So do the transactional exchanges involved in activities such as obtaining information and making a purchase .

  • 3.using language to talk about language :

Language leamers are often too embarrassed or shy to say anything when they do not understand another speaker or when they realize that a coversation partner has not understand them. Instructors can help students overcome this retience by assuring them that misunderstanding  and the need for clarification can occur in any type of interaction , whatever the participants language skill levels.
