What is a Non- Fiction Book?

Non- Fiction books give us information and facts.

They can teach us about the world, people, places and how to do something.

Parts of a Non- Fiction Book

There are many parts to a Non- Fiction books.

Most Non-Fiction books have a contents, glossary and an index page.

A CONTENTS page is found at the front of a books, after the title page. It helps the reader find chapters and headings in the book. It will provide the heading and the page number the information is on.

The GLOSSARY can be found at the back of the books. It provides a definition of the important words and words which are specific to the topic.

An INDEX gives the reader the page location of headings, subheadings and main information within the book. It can be found at the back of the book.

Text Features of a Non- Fiction Book

Non- Fictions books have TEXT FEATURES. These can be charts, diagrams, tables, graphs, captions, maps and timelines.

The text features provide more information about the subject and can give a clearer explanation.
