Graduation Ceremony Commencement Speaker

We’re very excited to welcome Haley Skarupa as the commencement speaker for the Class of 2025 graduation.

Haley is a graduate of Wootton and an American professional ice hockey forward who played in the National Women's Hockey League, the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, and won gold for the American national team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. This spring she will be inducted into the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame.

Graduation Rehearsal

  • Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 8:45 am - 12:00 pm in the Main Gym.
  • All graduates are required to attend the entire rehearsal to participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • If a student arrives after 9:00 am, they will be seated at the end of the alphabet.
  • After rehearsal, immediately take the cap/gown/stole out of the packaging and hang it up to remove wrinkles. Do not iron or use spray wrinkle remover on the gown.

  • Business casual attire for graduates
  • Appropriate footwear
  • Graduates cannot bring bring purses or bags into the ceremony. A small bag worn under the gown is okay.
  • Only school-issued stoles and cords from honor societies can be worn. No outside regalia can be worn during the ceremony. Other regalia is fine for pictures afterwards!
  • Cap can be decorated & follow school guidelines.
  • Cell phones are not to be used during the ceremony (must be in a pocket/bag under the gown)

  • Guests are encouraged to dress in business casual attire, however, there is no dress code.
  • Bags are permitted. No large backpacks or large tote bags. Bags will be checked upon entry.
  • Balloons and fresh flowers are not allowed inside DAR Constitution Hall.

Guests’ Arrival at DAR

Getting to DAR

All guests and graduates need to arrange for their own transportation to the graduation ceremony. Plan to drive to DAR, use the Metro, or purchase seats on the PTSA buses (include a bus ticket for the graduating senior). Do not rely on the Park Hero app. GWU typically has parking available.

Arrival Time

9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

Doors are temporarily locked at 9:45 a.m. and do not reopen until approx. 10:10 a.m. NO EXCEPTIONS!

ALL guests need a ticket, including young children. All tickets are general admission/not assigned.

  • Seats in the handicapped section must be reserved in advance.
  • Handicapped tickets are marked with a label on the back.
  • Details are on the WHS Graduation website.

End of the Ceremony

  • The ceremony must end by 12:00 p.m.
  • Arrange an outdoor meeting location with your graduate and guests.
  • At the end of the ceremony, graduates will exit through the side doors onto C street or D street.
  • Please do not exit the hall until all graduates and Wootton staff have exited.

Photography

  • Photography is permitted. Please do not interrupt the ceremony by using a flash, standing the aisle or block the view of others.
  • Professional photographs will be available to purchase online through Victor O’Neill Studios.
  • Live streaming will be posted on the MCPS Graduation Website the day of graduation.

Ticket Distribution & Extra Tickets

  • Total of 3,000 tickets. Each student receives 5 tickets plus the extra tickets requested on the cap and gown order form.
  • There are an extremely limited number of additional tickets remaining. If you do not anticipate needing all tickets, please return them to Ms. Rice for redistribution.
  • If you’d like to request an additional ticket, please use this google form to make the request. Open until May 2.
