Creating a New Class

Class Name: I have it match my class name

in Google Classroom.

The Class ID can be the same name as above, or you can name it anything you choose.

The roster type is either USERS or DEVICES. Since kids have their own Chromebook, I select USERS.

Adding Students

Google Classroom Sync:

When adding students to Aristotle, I have my students join my Google Classroom first. Then you just have to click “Google Classroom Sync” to add those students to your class roster. You will do the same steps if a new student joins or if a student moves.

Adding Students to your New Class

If your students are old (capable) enough to type in the class code to join the class themselves, you can just enlarge the code for them to see it to join.

If you teach younger kids… see the next slide.

Adding Students to Your New Class

If you teach younger students, it might be easier to add them to your class manually, then just have them “Join” when they log into their Google Classroom.

Other Controls: HEADS UP

If you need to get everyone’s attention for an announcement and want their attention on you and not their Chromebooks, click the “Heads Up” button and it will white out all screens. Click “End Heads Up” to allow students to continue.

Historical Reports

Historical Reports can only be pulled up from when you had your class open and active on Aristotle. (Our IT department can go back and view anytime students are logged on). You can set this up to email you a detailed report after each class if you wish (through the class schedule).

Posting Announcements

You can post announcements here. You can also attach links, Google Docs, videos, etc. Anything that you post here, ALL students will have access to.

So DO NOT put a doc here that you want them to type in or edit. That will go in as an assignment.

One more thing about announcements in the “Stream.”

I recommend changing your settings so that students CANNOT comment or post. Learn from my mistake…

Different Types of Classwork:

-Assignment

-Kami Assignment

-Quiz Assignment

-Question

-Reuse Post

I use “Assignment” the most, especially if I want each student to get their own copy of a Doc/Slide that they will manipulate and edit.
