  • Be aware that your mind response automatically how you gather information and how you make sense of it - brain likes to take shortcuts
  • We always use prior knowledge and experience to fill the gaps to have a whole picture but it makes us vulnerable to misinformation
  • We have false memory - brain uses imagination to fill the gaps
  • Bias are individual beliefs towards everything and everyone shaped by our life experience - we seek out for things we already understand, like and believe = WE EXPERIENCE MEDIA IN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAY

  • Sometimes when we are busy and not concerned to find a right answer we accept whatever answer is given to us

  • Media texts have the power to impact your understanding of things like race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation

  • Media creation is mostly made by people who have money and want to make more money - it a cycle that prevents different voices from creating different kinds o media

For example TikTok takes your personal data and what you’ve shared and liked and sticks info into algorithm to decide what appears in your news feed. ITS GOAL IS TO KEEP YOU ON TIKTOK, so it shows you things you will really like.
  • FILTER BUBBLE the media world we create where we only see and interact with things and people we already like
  • ALGORITHMIC LITERACY is knowing that any information you see online is only one slice of pie, and one that has been cut specifically for you.
