Hi Everyone!
My name's is Josh and I'm running for VP.
If you are like me, Data Science Soc and the events that have been run this year has provided so much clarity into what I want to do after university, I'm running for VP because I want to make sure others get to have this experience and maybe uncover a love for DS.
I love R (although prefer Python), can use excel without a mouse, know stupid coding languages (only for codeGolf) and will happily over-completicate a simple task with a tensorflow network. I have a particular interest in deep learning (especially deep-q leaning) but I also love to hear whatever everyone else is interested in.
While I love DS research, I recognise that we are at LSE and industry is a focus. My plan for Data Science Soc would be to have a healthy mix of industry insight alongside a focus on research oppurutnities. It is important that our members get a taste for all the potential career options out there in data science.
I think it is also imperative that we have some socials. After a year of covid, its time to make some new friends. Wouldn't it be great to catch up with some friends and discuss your interests. As VP, I would love to organise some discussion groups, social nights, etc. Whether it is data science focused (coding comps would be amazing!) or just to chill out, I have high hopes for next year.
Finally, I'm the type of VP to hear all ideas. Everyone is going to be coming into the meeting (comittee memeber or soc memeber) with their own ideas and iniatives. I really am excited to get everyone involved and make sure this society feels like home after a horrible year.
Can't wait to meet you all!

I am a first-year BSc Finance student from Istanbul, Turkey. As the daughter of a basketball coach, growing up, I would hold statistics in every game with nick sticks. As I aged, those nick sticks became numbers on my computer screen and I ended up predicting the performances of players. This experience instilled an intuitive understanding of and passion for data analysis in me as I have seen its power of foreseeing the future, which transformed into my goal of employing the Data Science Society’s influence as a platform for sharing the power of data analytics.
Goals:
- Open more positions in the society in order to increase social media presence, sponsorships, joint working with other departments, etc
- Invite experienced and successful people who see data analysis as a big part of their success
- Collaboration with other societies both form LSE such as the data science society and partner universities to increase sharing of new ideas and existing knowledge
- More interactive sessions in the coming year and also increasing activities by using social channels such as clubhouse - Expand sponsorship to grow and increase the prestige of the society - Setting up an online webpage and more social media presence
Experience
- Business Manager in a conference (and a project) where I was in charge of the training and management of operation and field staff and the business side of all transactions
- Contacts on the field due to data analytical research I have done with a professor and participated in discussions in meetings for the design of a predictive storyteller tool
- Managed a marketing campaign of an “English Intensive Summer Program for Kids” project and gained nearly 70 sign ups as well as contacted the UN resident coordinator who showed up
- Interned in the HR department of a magazine where I liaised with and support other divisions

Why Me:
Jack Fenner for Treasurer of Data Science Society
Oliver Mapps
I'm Olly, and I am a first-year student studying Mathematics with Economics.
Data Science has always been a passion of mine and I firmly believe that everyone should be able to appreciate its power. As a self-taught programmer, I have experienced first hand the daunting nature of the discipline, and this is why it is a goal of mine to utilise the society’s platform to make Data Science more accessible to the average student.
Being a former long-time member of my local political party in Bristol, I am experienced in inspiring change and connecting with the layman. I aim to use these skills in order to allocate a budget that will both allow newcomers to understand and apply the power of data science, and allow experienced members to continue engaging and collaborating on their many wonderful projects.
Thank you for reading my manifesto, and remember to vote Oliver, he’s sure to deliver!

I believe that Data Science is a useful skill that is best learnt through experience - whether listening to others share or learning hands-on: and I think partnering with others is the best outlet to allow us to have the opportunities to build this network. I’m committed to organisation and professionalism in contacting relevant parties and pursuing new opportunities for everyone to partake in.
Aims:
Maintaining existing relations
I believe in the value of long-term partners who continue to support the society, and will work to maintain these relationships successfully through consistent engagement and an early-outreach plan.
Regionally-focused Networking sessions
To better connect our international cohort to working professionals in the respective regions, I propose that some sessions could be regionally focused - AMER, EMEA, APAC, etc.
Partnerships with other Societies
Collaboration with more societies for career-focused panel-discussions, or for social events!
Panel Discussions & Speakers
To continue the success of Data Science Weekend, as well as continue to organise successful events. As always, to make small steps to expand, while maintaining deep relations. I look forward to making effective pitches, working to represent LSE’s Data Science Society together with the Marketing Heads and other committee members.
Ayse Gokmen
Hi Everyone,
My name is Ayse and I am a first-year Management student. I am running to be Head of Partnerships.
After spending this year as a partnerships officer, I believe I have learned a lot about what the role consists of and am ready to take the responsibility. This year we have gotten positive feedback from some big companies and I would like to build upon these relationships to secure strong sponsorships for our society next year. With things starting to go back to normal hopefully we will have more in person events. On top of the merch we can receive through the potential partnerships, I am planning to have our own merch to strengthen the community feeling. Data Science Society has proved itself to be one of the most consistent and active societies this year even under the current circumstances and I am excited to be part of this success next year.
Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto. Hope to see you soon :)

Wei Xuan Ang
Hi guys, I'm Wei Xuan, a first year Bsc Economics student.
Vision and Priorities
I'm running for this position because I understand the importance of clear instruction in fields with steep learning curves, having benefited first-hand from it before. I would like to be able to offer the same clarity in instruction to those seeking to progress further in data science, or are just starting to wade into this complex field.
I am definitely not the most proficient at coding, but I am interested in continuing this journey of learning with the rest of the society. To this end, I will endeavour to bring in the best resources for the society. Ideally, this would be through tapping on the skills of our talented members, or via external workshops and sessions.
Experience
1) Prior to entering LSE, I interned at a startup in Singapore, which aimed to promote data science skills to the general public. In the time I spent there, I was exposed to the conceptualization, development of the curriculum and eventually the implementation of commercial courses such as a data analyst (machine learning) certification course.
2) Varied event planning experience including collaborating with external (not school-affiliated) partners
