Chuck was a 4-H member in Gooding County 8 years, a 4-H volunteer for 2 years prior to accepting a position as 4 H Extension Agent for Fort Hall Reservation. His empathy and understanding of Native American youth helped 4-H become a strong program which aided many Native American youth achieve beyond their humble beginnings. He served in the role of 4-H Agent in Lemhi (Salmon) and Bonneville (Idaho Falls) Counties, before being appointed as a District 4 H Specialist. He served in these roles from 1959 to 1989. He was an IFYE to Brazil in 1955-56, Chuck helped start the 4-H/LABO exchange program with Japan in 1972, He was Director of 4-H Programs in Thailand in 1981 for a new program for National 4-H Council. He was involved in 4-H for over 50 years and received the State 4-H Alumni Award in 1997, and the Idaho 4-H Hall of Fame Award in 2002.

NAE4-HYDP President in 1989 Dick developed the Pioneer Land at the La Porte County Fairgrounds. This project, which began in 1995, now has 13 buildings with 130 volunteers operating the village during the fair. Dick, himself, demonstrated the old tools and methods used in woodworking, within the village. Served as North Central Director for the NAE4-HYDP from 1984 to 1986.

Vernon had a strong love for 4-H and served it well in multiple ways throughout his life. Vernon loved being president of NAE4-HA in 2000-2001. Another highlight was serving as a co-chair when Nebraska hosted the 2011 NAE4-HA Conference in Omaha. Vernon especially treasured the many lifelong friendships he made with 4-H colleagues while serving on the NAE4-HYDP Board several times in various positions. Vernon Waldren, 68, lost his long and valiant struggle against cancer on Friday, January 7, 2022. He was born and raised in Tribune, Kansas, and was an 11-year Greeley Co. 4-H member. He graduated from Kansas State University with BS and MS degrees, and then began a long career with University of Nebraska Extension in Douglas and Sarpy Counties from 1976 - 2013.

Jenell Smith started her extension career as a FACS/4-H agent in Smith county in 1970. In 1972 she became County Extension 4-H agent in Sedgwick County Kansas. Jenell was passionate about volunteer training and working with the teen 4-H leadership development. Jenell gave leadership to the FCS 4-H projects in Sedgwick county and developed the Teen Council program and the 4-H Camp counselor program. She took the lead on the county 4-H awards and recognition program. She continued with the 4-H program through 1998. At that time she transferred to the fcs program in Sedgwick county and gave leadership and volunteer development to the SCHICK program until she retired.

Ray’s first experience with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach was serving as a photography judge at County Fairs. He was an elementary teacher at that time and connected with 4-H members who shared his interest in photography.
Ray was also enthusiastic about life-long learning and enjoyed working with youth and adult volunteers. His teaching skills were an asset that he shared as he worked with volunteers at leader meetings, presentations to staff, hands-on photography workshops for youth and adults. He especially enjoyed working with the high school youth who served on the Southwest Iowa Area youth council. Ray’s smile and his words provided inspiration to young people to try new projects, new experiences and to do their best.
