LESSON 2: MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN CLASSROOM

  • Students create kelp forest animals and add them to a kelp forest model that will stay in your classroom.

  • Students practice the “Science Discovery Process” movements to become part of a community of scientists.

  1. Can we use your Smart Board & laptop to access the slides?

  • Check classroom numbers and phone numbers?

  • How many non-English speaking students do you have? What languages do they speak?

  • In follow up emails, we will ask of any student needs.

  • Extensive Need Classes
    • Each student is encouraged to attend with the scheduled grade-level classes with aides.
    • Please communicate with Ocean Discovery staff beforehand. Inform us of any accommodations needed.

  • Print, disperse and collect Ocean Discovery waivers by the first day of program

  • Recruit chaperones as needed for your class
    • 1-2 highly encouraged (no limit)*

  • Order student lunches as needed

*We reserve 2 chaperone spaces on the buses. If more is needed, let us know.

REMINDERS

  • Encourage students to bring a re-usable water bottles.

  • Personal backpacks are not needed on the field trip. We encourage you to leave them in the classroom.

  • Remind students to wear comfortable close-toed shoes for walking.

  • Student name tags are highly encouraged!
