The Storks and War
The war in Ukraine has a negative impact on the life of storks
Destruction of nesting sites. Bombing, fighting and artillery fire destroy buildings and trees where storks build their nests. This directly destroys the breeding places of birds.
Change of habitat. Environmental pollution due to hostilities (explosives, chemical compounds, garbage) negatively affects the health of storks and the availability of food.
Change in migration routes. Fighting forces storks to change their traditional migration routes.
Stress and death of birds. The noise of explosions, constant stress from combat operations negatively affects the health and behavior of storks, leads to a decrease in the population and the death of birds.
Reducing the amount of food. Military operations lead to a decrease in the amount of available food for storks, as fields, meadows and other places where they look for food (frogs, insects, rodents) are destroyed.
